Channel Islands and the UK
Updated over a week ago

The Crown Dependencies (Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man) are not part of the UK, but can be optionally included within the UK for searching.

The Crown Dependencies are the Bailiwick of Guernsey, the Bailiwick of Jersey and the Isle of Man. The Bailiwick of Guernsey is comprised of Guernsey, Alderney, Sark, Herm, and various other islands. The Bailiwick of Jersey comprises the island of Jersey and several uninhabited islands. These territories are possessions of The Crown but are not part of the United Kingdom.

Fetchify uses the Royal Mail PAF for Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man. We also use the PAF for the rest of the UK. It's the best source of data available for the Crown Dependencies and we update our data daily.

Address Auto-Complete

You may want to have Guernsey as a separate country from the rest of the UK. So we allow you to search in Guernsey separately. If you select Guernsey as the country, only Guernsey addresses will be shown in the search results. When a result is selected, the country field will be populated with the value 'Guernsey'.

On the other hand, you may prefer Guernsey addresses to have 'United Kingdom' as the country name. This may be preferred by some couriers. For this reason, the Guernsey data is also included with the rest of the United Kingdom. So if you select the UK as the country it will include any relevant Guernsey addresses in the search results. If a customer selects the UK as the country then selects a Guernsey address, the country field will be populated with the value 'United Kingdom'.

For Address Auto-Complete, it is possible to exclude the Crown Dependencies from UK searches using the 'exclude areas' feature. This is available if you are using the API directly, and the feature is also included in some of our plugins. There is more information about this in our API documentation.

Postcode Lookup

For Postcode Lookup, it is possible to exclude the Crown Dependencies by filtering out these postcodes before doing the lookup. These postcodes are easy to identify, as they always begin with 'JE', 'GY' or 'IM'.

If your address form has Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man as separate countries, it is possible to set the country field based on the first two characters of the postcode. Most of our plugins support this feature.
