For most countries an address is made up of the following lines - not all of which are necessarily required to deliver mail.
Fetchify Data Structure | Common Address Structure | Shopify Field Names |
Company Name | Company Name | Company Name* |
Address Line 1 | Flat 3, 35 My Street | Address |
Address Line 2 | Local Area Name | Apartment/Suite* |
City | Birmingham | City |
County / Province | West Midlands | Province/State |
Postcode / Zipcode | AA1 1AA | Postcode / Zipcode |
You will see in Shopify checkouts that the layout and available fields changes based on the country the user has selected to ship to, and the applicable address format for that country.
For checkouts to UK shipping addresses for example, the County field is no longer present as it is not required by Royal Mail for addressing.
If an address contains a smaller town, village or suburb as part of a larger city, this information is populated into the field labeled ‘Apartment/Suite’ as this actually represents Address Line 2 in the Shopify back-end. For other countries, this field may also be populated with other regionally relevant address information.
We are working with Shopify to try to improve the field naming conventions for the UK and other territories so that they more accurately match the expected formats for those areas.
